Understanding neurological disability and Conductive Education.

Andras Petö 1893-1967 Hungary

Conductive Education was created by Professor Andras Petö in the 1940's in Budapest, Hungary.

Professor Petö was an experienced physician and pedagog, who saw a need to develop a system of learning which facilitated independence for individuals with neurological conditions.

The system of Conductive Education is unique to any other, because it incorporates learning on every level; physical, emotional, intellectual and academic. The Conductors (teachers of Conductive Education) understand that in order for individuals to develop independence and personal freedom, they must not be 'treated' for isolated functions but must be taught as a 'whole'.

Different parts of the nervous system do not work as independent units, but as part of a unitary whole. Every change in the system as a whole will have an effect on its parts.

Petö taught his followers that every single life can be improved.
